Hello everyone! I am so happy to be back in the classroom for the remainder of the school year! We have been very busy since we returned from winter break. We just finished up Unit 8 in math and are starting Unit 9 next week. You should have gotten a parent connection letter explaining the unit. It is a short unit focused on measurement. I also sent an email the other day explaining our new science unit on the sun, moon, and Earth. We have thinking boards outside of our classrooms for gathering information we learn throughout this unit. We are also using our resources to learn about nonfiction features. The students are creating digital books using the app Book Creator while they hunt for these features. Some of the features they are learning about are title, table of contents, headings, bold face words, glossary, index, photographs and more. Studying these features is our introduction to our new nonfiction writer's workshop unit. The students will be reading and creating many nonfiction books. We also continued to work on our social studies unit, which is comparing schools from long ago to schools today. This also included some discussions on wants and needs, as well as goods and services. This was further explored on our field trip to the Raupp Museum. And we took some time to review our literacy activities and rebuild our stamina after break.
If anyone is interested in volunteering in the classroom, send me an email and let me know!
If you are interested in being a mystery reader, please send me an email so we can set up a time.
A big thank you to all of our parent volunteers who came on the Raupp Museum trip!
Check out the new pictures of the students working on their digital books.
Things to ask your child about:
-What nonfiction features did you find in books?
-What did you do at the Raupp Museum?
