I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break! It was great seeing everyone at conferences a couple weeks ago. I am so proud of your children and can't wait to continue to help them grow for the remainder of the school year.
We had some exciting things going on right before break. For World Read Aloud Day we skyped with a class in Honduras! We read a book to them and they read a book to us. It was very cool and I hope we can keep in touch with them. There is a picture of the skype on the extras page of the website.
We also went on our winter trip to Rivershire. I was trying to post pictures of the trip, but I am having trouble, so hopefully they will be posted soon. Thank you again to all of our parent volunteers who met us there.
The week before break we studies matter. We did lots of experiments to understand solids and liquids. We read poems and books, watched videos, and even created our own websites with all of the information we learned. If you want to check out the students' websites, look on the student links page of the website and ask your child what group number they were. We learned the properties of solids and liquids, built towers, melted ice cubes, and so much more. It was a great week!
We will be continuing and finishing up our nonfiction writing unit over the next few weeks. Our last writing unit is persuasive/opinion writing, which will be a lot of fun. We are also starting chapter 13 in math, which is adding and subtracting within 40. And we will be continuing our reading groups during Team Literacy and literacy choice time.
I sent home many Scholastic Book Order catalogs before break. I would like to submit the order over next weekend, so I'd like all orders placed by Friday. This will be the last order of the year. It's a great time to stock up on some new books for the rest of the school year or for the summer. Remember, the more books ordered, the more new books I can order for the classroom library!
Things to ask your child about:
-What are the properties of solids and liquids?
-What are nonfiction features you find in books?
