It is hard to believe that this school year is coming to an end in just a few weeks! We've been so busy and had some great experiences lately. In science we have been studying the life cycles of the butterfly and frog. We were lucky enough to have Randy Korb visit Sprague and teach us about butterflies and frogs in a hands on learning lab. You can check out the visit by looking at our pictures on the website. We've also been busy writing nonfiction chapter books during writer's workshop. The students have been writing books about things they know a lot about. They've learned how to organize their information into chapters, create a table of contents, glossary, dedications, all about the author, and much more. The students have been very enthusiastic about the unit and have been working very hard on their books. Next week we are going to choose a book to publish on our iPads. In math we have been working on addition and subtraction strategies. We also finished our social emotional child protection unit. We spent a lot of time in April learning about poetry. The students learned how to create acrostic, haiku, and shape poems. We read many books and did several poetry projects, as well. It was a lot of fun! And as I'm sure you've heard, we went to an exciting surprise assembly for Dr. Adler when she won the Golden Apple award. We are so proud of her and so happy to be part of such a great school!
Things to ask your child about:
-What is the life cycle of a frog?
-What are your nonfiction chapter books about?
-What book are you reading during Team Literacy?
Things to remember:
-D103 walk is tomorrow! See you then!
-Our Botanic Gardens field trip is on Thursday, June 4. You will need to pack your child a disposable lunch and drink on this day.
-Portfolio day is Thursday, May 28 from 1:40-2:45. You are welcome to take your children home afterwards as long as you let me/the office know that afternoon. Today I sent home a sheet asking if someone will be able to attend portfolio day or I should find an adult for your child to share with that day. Please send this back as soon as possible.
-Please start looking for any library books that need to be returned.
-We will have some special activities the last week of school. I will be sending home and emailing the schedule.
-If you have not sent back your permission for the Fun Fest, please do so as soon as possible.
