I can't believe how quickly this first full week has gone! We were very busy this week. We started our new Math in Focus program. The first chapter focuses on more, fewer, greater than, less than, and the same. I am excited to show you the depth of this program during Curriculum Night. We have also started working on our writing. We are using the All About Me posters to learn about the students in our class and making a book for them. The students are writing facts they learned about the student and coloring a picture for them. In a few weeks, every student will have a book written all about them! During this time, we are working on our handwriting and creating interesting sentences. We also spent some time this week learning how to pick good fit books. They had their first opportunity to go "book shopping" and try to pick some good fit books on their own. Then, we started building our independent reading stamina. The students are trying to build up how many minutes they can focus on their reading everyday. You will also notice that they got some reading strategy cards in their take home folders. As the children are reading at home, please encourage them to use these strategies.
Things to ask your child about:
-Who did we learn about during our All About Me sharing?
-What is an activity they enjoyed during math?
-How many minutes were we able to read independently by the end of this week?
Reminders:
-September 9 is Curriculum Night. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!
-THANK YOU to all of the people who have ordered books from the Scholastic book order already! Orders are due September 12. Thanks for participating in this wonderful program!
-Several of you have emailed me about being a mystery reader. I am excited to start getting family members into our classroom. I will be ready to start signing people up at Curriculum Night
