This was a busy and exciting week for the Super Stars! Here is what we did:
-I am thinking about trying to set up some parent volunteers during our math block, which is from 10:00-10-50 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and from 10:00-10:35 on Tuesdays and Fridays. If you are free during that time and are interested in coming in to assist with math activities, send me an email.
This week we worked with Mr. Schreurs' class to plant in our garden. We learned about the parts of a seed and the parts of plants. We learned about different types of flowers and how deep the bulbs needed to be planted. Every student from both classes got to plant some bulbs, which will make our garden beautiful in the spring!
After planting on Thursday, we went to Botanic Gardens to continue our studying on Friday. On the field trip, the students were able to dissect seeds, draw and label them in a journal, plant their own seeds in pots, and search for seeds in the gardens. It was a great trip that everyone enjoyed a lot.
Continuing on in our day, we had our Halloween celebrations. The parade and party were so much fun! The students looked great and it was a pleasure to have all of the families celebrate in the classroom with the kids.
In math, we started our unit on patterning. They will be exploring different types of patterns and see how patterns help us learn different math concepts. We were also making pa
We also continued visualizing during our read-alouds. I read the students a story called The Salamander Room. I broke the book into sections and as I was reading, they sketched out what they heard. Afterwards, they were able to see the pictures and compare their sketches to the illustrator.
Here are some things to ask your child about:
-What are the three parts of a seed?
-What are the jobs of the parts of a plant?
-What was their favorite part of the field trip?
Thank you to Ali's mom for being a mystery reader! The kids had a lot of fun singing Pete the Cat!
Thank you so much to the room parents! Our Halloween party was a blast thanks to your hard work!
Thank you to everyone who came on our field trip! It was a great trip and hopefully we all came away learning something new about plants and seeds!
Reminders:
-Scholastic book orders are due on WEDNESDAY. Please get the orders in before then. I am going to submit the order on Thursday, so you can order through Wednesday. Remember, the more books ordered, the more books I can get for our classroom library! And that is how I am able to get books for the voracious readers that finish their reading logs.
-Please remember that if a book is sent home to read for the night, it needs to come back to school the next day. Often times, these are books that are used for their guided reading groups and they need them for their lessons. As soon as the students are done reading them, have them put them right back into their take home folders. We might be missing a couple, so please ask your children if they have returned their Team Literacy books or if there is one you need to find at home.
-Continue to contact me if you would like to be a mystery reader.
