This week we learned a lot about the life cycle of a plant. The students also learned why each part of a plant is important. They went outside and took pictures of each of the different parts with their ipads and created a life cycle book in book creator. They not only added the pictures, but are now working on typing or recording themselves explaining why each part is important to the plant. I have a song on my website under the extras page that will help them remember the importance. Please listen to it with your children! We have listened to it in class already.
In writer's workshop we read several books and looked at their beginnings and endings. The students are now trying to make interesting beginnings and endings in their stories.
We will be finishing up chapter four in math over the next week or so. This chapter focused on subtraction.
We also finished up the first three chapters in our social studies books and took a quiz using the ipads. These chapters focused on why we have rules at school, why sharing is important, how people are alike and different, and how we learn at school.
During some library sessions, I've been going with the students and we are all working on digital citizenship with Mrs. Sabin. We've been learning what to do if we see something online that makes us uncomfortable. We've also been learning what sites are safe and when we need to ask an adult for help.
Things to ask your children about:
-What are the hand movements that go with each part a plant?
-How are each of the plant parts important?
-Why do we have rules at school?
Things to remember:
-We are going to Botanic Gardens with Mrs. Friedli and Mr. Schreurs' classes on Friday, October 31 in the morning. Our class will be splitting in half and joining each of their classes. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers! The students should not wear their costumes, they should bring them in a bag for when we get back. They also do not need to bring a lunch, they will be back right before lunch. It might be chilly, so make sure they have a jacket and anything else they need to stay warm.
-The Halloween parade and party are the afternoon of Friday, October 31. The students should bring their costumes in a bag and we will change into them before the parade after lunch. Everyone is welcome, so I hope to see you there!
-Thanks to everyone who ordered scholastic books from the book order. I will submit that in the next day or two and they should come in a couple weeks.
-Don't forget, I will be out at meetings for 3 days next week. If you need anything during the school day, please contact the office.
-Students have been finishing their reading logs, which is so exciting! When they turn it in, I look it over, give them a star and they put up a sticker on a chart. Then, I return their log and give them a brand new log. As soon as your child finishes their log, please send them in!
