It's hard to believe that the first trimester of the year is already over! I am so proud of the students' hard work and growth and I am excited to share what they've been working on with you at conferences. We've spent the last couple weeks wrapping up some of our units. We had our wonderful field trip to Botanic Gardens, planted some bean and grass seeds, learned some songs and hand motions to remember the parts of the plant life cycle and why each part of a plant is important, and finished up with a small assessment. We also ended our narrative writing unit last week. The students learned how to write a story about a small moment that happened to them. They worked on interesting beginnings, stretching their story across several pages, adding details so the reader gets a picture in their mind, and how to revise and edit their work. And we ended our fourth chapter in math, which focused on subtraction within 10. This week we started a short geometry chapter. We will continue working on geometry, which includes patterns and fractions, next week. This week we also had a new Second Step lesson, which focused on reading facial expressions. We realized that we can tell a lot about how people are feeling by just looking at their faces.
Things to ask your children about:
-What are you thankful for? How did you use the app Popplet to create a web?
-What is the story The Greedy Triangle?
-How can you tell how people are feeling by looking at their faces?
Things to Remember:
-Library is on Thursdays. Please remember to send books back so students can check out new books!
-As it gets colder, make sure students are able to zip jackets themselves, put on and take off snow pants quickly, and have a pocket or somewhere safe to keep gloves and hats. We also have to make sure we have gym shoes in our lockers at all times to change into so students are not wearing boots in the classroom. Please practice these procedures with your children at home so we don't waste instructional time. Thanks for your help!
-I will see everyone at conferences either before or after school next week or on Monday, November 24. If you forget your time, just send me an email.
