Our class had an amazing time during the Halloween parade and classroom party! Throughout the whole week I could see how excited the students were about celebrating. I am so grateful many of the parents and families came to see their children in their costumes. You all made the party special! We were also excited Mrs. Schlan made an appearance!
During our math block we continued to study plane and 3D shapes. Mr. Schreurs introduced choices, giving the students more ownership of their learning. Students learned more fun math games! These games help students build fact fluency, which will be extremely important throughout the rest of the year!
Mr. Schreurs and I focused a lot of energy on writers workshop this past week. Students learned strategies to bring their stories to life. During whole class minilessons we used published works and teacher created examples to illustrate these strategies: making people move and talk, taking small steps and showing peoples feelings and thoughts. We encouraged students to use all these strategies when creating their stories. This helps them write great stories!
During Team Literature students continue to work on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in small-differentiated groups. Many groups have made great improvements and are being challenged in new ways. The 1st grade team has a new addition to Team Literature, Frankie Brown! She is an associate who specifically works on Team Literature and will be integrated into our classrooms this week.
Your children continue to demonstrate their ability to work independently during literacy choices. This provides me quality time to teach guided reading in small groups. Over the past week many groups showed improvement in their reading skills! I am very excited about providing every student with more small group teacher interaction during guided reading!
Reminders:
-Please remember to send your child to school with their Team Lit book if they bring it home!
-Make sure your child is practicing their spelling sort and IXL math!
-Next Monday, November 11th there is NO SCHOOL.
