It was another busy week for the Super Stars! This was our first week of science. We are very fortunate to have our own classroom garden filled with pumpkins! The students studied the life cycle of a pumpkin this week by reading books, writing their own stories, and observing the garden.
We also began writer's workshop this week. The students started brainstorming what jobs they might enjoy when they grow up. Next week we will continue and they will write their stories.
Team Literacy is also off to a great start! The students are in groups four days a week reading, writing, and working on word study that is targeted just for them. Some students may have brought their books home to practice. Please make sure these books come back to school on Monday.
We are finishing up unit 2 in math next week. We have been working on making 10, using the number grid, counting coins, telling time, and reading tally graphs. Our next unit will be focused on patterns.
Here are some things to ask your child about:
-What is the life cycle of a pumpkin?
-What are transition words and how do you use them to make your writing better?
-What were some math activities you worked on this week during Daily 5 math?
Thank you to Sophia's mom for being our first mystery reader! The students were so excited! We will be looking forward to having more of you visit our classroom in the next few weeks.
-We have a field trip to the Botanic Gardens coming up later in the month. If you have not turned in your money, please get it to the office as soon as you can.
-Continue to email me if you are interested in being a mystery reader. I try to spread it out so we have about one a week, so we can start getting people scheduled for November.
-As soon as your child fills up their reading log, have them bring it back to school so they can earn their "voracious reader" certificate and a book to keep!
-I will start a new Scholastic Book Order later in the month.
