We had a great time celebrating the 100th day of school and Valentine's Day! We did many projects and activities to go along with these days. And the students had a blast passing out all their valentine cards!
We are finishing up our graphing unit in math. It's been a lot of fun to interpret graphs and create our own. We will begin our next chapter this week, which focuses on numbers up to 40.
Our writer's workshop has been in full swing the last few weeks. We switched to writing nonfiction books and the kids are doing a great job! They are learning about new topics or writing about topics they already know a lot about. They are including all of the nonfiction features they learned about in our past project. We are also taking a closer look at many published nonfiction books to see what those authors did to make their books special.
We just finished up our sun, moon, and Earth unit. Our next science unit will be matter, but we won't be starting for a few weeks.
Our Team Literacy groups just switched, so that is exciting. The students are either in a new classroom, have a new teacher for their group, or have some new students they are working with.
We are also switching our word study groups this coming week based on their most current assessment. Do not worry if some of your kids are working on sorts they have already done. Some students need a review of these and it might take a few weeks to transition into new words.
This week we have Rivershire on Wednesday morning! Please dress your children warmly and make sure they wear boots and snow pants. We will be outside for some of the trip. We will be there from 9:30-11:00. If you are volunteering, you are meeting at Rivershire at 9:00 and we will see you there.
I will be absent on Thursday because I will be at a technology conference. I am looking forward to bringing back new ideas to use with the class!
You may have heard that we had some video cameras donated to our class by the PTO. I originally asked for a grant with a video camera, a digital camera, and a green screen to do some neat projects with the students. I didn't get the grant approved, but I figured out how to use my smartboard as a green screen to get the same effect. I will post the thank you video on the website for you to see.
I will be sending you a link to a survey about the possibility of our class participating in a Bring Your Own Device program. When you get the link, please fill out the survey so we can analyze the results. Thank you!
Things to ask your child about:
-What is the introduction of their most recent writer's workshop book?
-What was their favorite 100th day or Valentine's Day activity?
