We have been VERY busy the past few weeks! We started a new science unit by studying the earth, sun, and moon. We have been keeping a calendar of the phases of the moon and hopefully the students have been trying to observe the moon at night or in the morning. We are also back to studying life cycles. We have been observing caterpillars, wingless fruit flies, and praying mantis cases. We have also been observing our beautiful outdoor garden, which is now full of blooming flowers. And we have planted some vegetables in an indoor planter so we can see the roots grow. The students have been journaling about all of the changes taking place. We also had our author celebration yesterday. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to share their newest published books with the class. I was so proud of their hard work and can't believe what they accomplished. In math we just finished up our geometry unit. We did many fun activities and projects to learn all about shapes. April is also poetry month. We have been practicing writing acrostic poems. Throughout the month we will be continuing to try writing different types of poetry. It's been a lot of fun!
Thank you to Elana's mom for being a mystery reader!
Remember, we have a Rivershire trip on Monday, April 29 if you are interested in volunteering.
Things to ask your child about:
What is your favorite life cycle to study?
What did you write an acrostic poem about?
What dialogue did you add to your writer's workshop story
