The Boggle boards are new additions to our classroom! As part of the morning routine, when the students finish getting ready for the day they have some choice time. They can make words using the regular Boggle board or they can make number models using the Number Boggle board. Both games have been a big hit with the Super Stars!
Something else that was new this week was our writing journals. The last piece of Literacy Daily 5 was working on writing. I gave the students a special writing journal with October topics. They have been hard at work practicing their writing skills ever since. I am glad they are so excited and can't wait to begin our more formal writer's workshop next week.
We are also continuing our math groups. We have been working on a variety of skills, such as counting coins, telling time, and using a number grid. These skills have been differentiated for our students' needs and they are getting a lot of great practice. We will be continuing to work on unit 2 skills next week.
We also started preparing to start Team Literacy. The students were put into their groups, introduced to their teachers, and practiced some of the activities we will be doing during that time. Team Literacy will be starting next week. Sometimes, books they have read will be sent home with them to reread. Please have them bring these books back to school the following day.
This week we also read many poems. Not only did we search for word wall words, but also short vowel words. They were very good at spotting these words as a class and individually in their own poem books.
Here are some things to ask your children about:
-Which poem did they enjoy the most this week?
-What were some of the word study activities they learned during their Team Literacy time this week?
-What October journal topic did they write about?
-Don't forget to email me if you would like to be a mystery reader.
-Thank you to everyone who donated dry erase markers!
-We go to library on Fridays, please make sure your children bring their books back so they can check out new ones.
