It's been another exciting week for the Super Stars! Last week the students identified many people as important to Sprague. This week, the students found out who they were interviewing, created questions, and practiced asking their questions while being filmed on the iPad. Both the students and teachers are excited to do their interviews next week!
In math we have continued working on our measuring unit. Friday our class worked with Mrs. Wylie on a special measurement hunt. You can check out pictures from this activity in the December album.
During writer's workshop, the students have written many books about subjects they have schema about. This week we conferenced and decided on one book they will take through the complete writer's workshop process and eventually publish. I am impressed with how much the students have improved in the past few weeks.
We did a couple different things during teacher time this week. I finished guided reading groups with the students using a book to teach them about citizenship. This was a great connection to what we are talking about in social studies. I also worked with groups to sort and write their word study words. And I worked with the students to explore a new website I found to practice common core skills. I will be giving you more information about this website in the future.
We also had our big celebration for filling our fuzzy jar this week. We all had a lot of fun spending the day in our pajamas and watching a movie in the afternoon!
Here are some things to ask your child about:
-What items did you use to measure with during the math hunt?
-Who will you be interviewing next week and what questions will you be asking?
-What can you do to be a good citizen?
Thank you to everyone who donated a book to the class from the Barnes and Noble book fair!
Reminders:
-We have a field trip to the Raupp Museum on Friday morning.
-If your child hasn't brought a paper towel tube, please send them with one as soon as possible.
-We will be having our winter sing and party on Friday the 21st.
