I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! It was wonderful meeting with all of you at conferences and sharing lots of student growth. I am so proud of their hard work this year so far. This past week we've been learning all about maps. We read our map chapter in our social studies books, read several stories about maps during read aloud time, did a special Nearpod lesson on the ipads to introduce maps, and even had a chance to draw some maps of our classrooms. We've been busy! This week we've also been practicing poems and songs for our Barnes and Noble book fair performance. I am looking forward to seeing most of you tomorrow at the performance! During math we had a unit on geography and now we are working on developing our number sense and place value for numbers 0-20.
Things to ask your children about:
-Why do maps have map keys?
-What songs/poems are you doing for the book fair performance?
-How many tens and how many ones are in the number 14? 16? 20?
Things to remember:
-Barnes and Noble book fair performance is at 2:30 tomorrow!! Please be there a little early so I can give the students their copies of the songs.
-We are still looking for some team literacy books that are missing. If I have contacted you about books, your child has not returned their book. Please look around your house for them, they are expensive and other students can't read them if they are missing. Thanks!
-As it gets colder, make sure students are able to zip jackets themselves, put on and take off snow pants quickly, and have a pocket or somewhere safe to keep gloves and hats. We also have to make sure we have gym shoes in our lockers at all times to change into so students are not wearing boots in the classroom. Please practice these procedures with your children at home so we don't waste instructional time. Thanks for your help!
-If you are interested in being a mystery reader, let me know!
-If you are interested in volunteering for the Raupp Museum field trip, sign up on the document I sent earlier in the week. If you aren't sure how to do that but want to come, just let me know.
-Today I sent home a mapping project for the students to complete. Please send those back on Monday.
