We had another great week! We continued working on the first chapter of our new math series, Math in Focus. The vocabulary we are focusing on are more, fewer, greater, less and same. We are also working on comparing numbers using these terms. And we are practicing making and recognizing patterns. Our lessons have been interactive. We use the smartboard, math tools, a hardcover book, and a workbook. We also have a special calendar we use on the smartboard each day. Something else we have been practicing is building our partner game math stamina. The students came up with how math games should be practiced and they are working on building their stamina each day. Similarly, they are working on their independent reading stamina everyday, as well. We are hoping to get to at least ten minutes next week! We started learning a song this week to remind ourselves how to pick just right books, also. And we had our first social studies lesson. The lesson focused on cooperation and the students did an experiment to test out ways to work together.
Things to ask your child about:
-What does building stamina mean?
-How did it feel to draw a picture with a partner without talking?
Reminders:
-Monday is Curriculum Night! I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
-Scholastic book orders are due September 12. Thanks again for everyone who has ordered so far!
-I will be signing people up for mystery reader times and
