We had several exciting things going on this week. One was going to the Raupp Museum. This field trip connected to our communities social studies unit. The students learned about how things were in older times. They experienced trading eggs and money for goods that their "families" needed to survive. Each group was given a senario to think about so they would know what kinds of items to buy at the store. They were only given a certain amount of money and eggs to trade, so they had to really prioritize their family's needs. Pictures of this trip are posted in the photo albums.
Something else that was exciting this week was conducting our interviews. Every group did a fantastic job and I am so proud of how seriously and professionally they took their roles. I heard many kids afterwards saying that they wanted to be reporters when they grow up! The students will have a chance to watch everyone else's interviews so they can learn about all of the important people that make up Sprague School. This project also tied in with our social studies unit.
In math we are finishing up our measurement unit. The students will be taking the unit 4 test next week and the unit 5 pretest. Unit 5 is focused on place value.
In writer's workshop, the students learned how to revise their work this week. They have been partnered up with several people to get advice on how to make their writing the best it can be. Next week we will work on editing their rough drafts.
The students are really enjoying the scootpad website I sent you an email about. I will put more details about this website in the technology page.
One last exciting thing...a new student will be joining our class on Monday! His name is Christopher and we are very excited to welcome him to the Super Stars.
Here are some things to ask your child about:
-What was your favorite part of the Raupp Museum trip?
-How did you feel after conducting your interview? What did you learn about that person?
-What books are you reading during your Team Literacy time?
Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who came on the field trip! It was very helpful to have all of you there!
Reminders:
-If you have not sent in a paper towel tube, please try to send one as soon as possible. We are starting to use them next week.
-We have the holiday sing and party on Friday.
-PLEASE look for any missing books at your house. Some of the Team Literacy books are missing and may have to be paid for if they are not found. We can not send books home with the students if they are not coming back. The school purchases these books in sets, so we need them all back. Please let me know if you can not find a book so we can figure out what to do.
-I already know of a few students who will be missing some school because of vacations. If you know your child will be out and you haven't contacted me, it would be great if you could let me know.
