The Super Stars are getting to be REAL readers! This week, the students learned by making a "real reading salad" that reading is half text and half thinking. When you mix the two together, you have a real reader. The class has also been trying to build their independent reading stamina. We also learned the three ways to read a book:
1. Read the pictures
2. Read the words
3. Retell the story
We will continue practicing all of these next week. In math, we practiced solving number stories, reviewed the thermometer, and had some exploration time. This week we also wrote about our classmates. We had some students present their All About Me posters and each student wrote a page about them that we turned into a book. We will continue doing this to practice our writing and get to know each other. Today we completed our first social studies unit, as well. We talked about cooperation and how students can get along.
Here are some things you can ask your children about:
1. What cooperation experiment did we do in social studies today?
2. What are some of the books we read this week?
3. What are the three ways to read a book?
4. Can you sing the I PICK Rap?
Things to remember:
--Scholastic Book Orders are up and ready for you! Go to scholastic.com and put in our class code:GR4KW. If you do not want to order online and prefer to send a check, that is fine, as well. The orders are due on September 12, so please get them in as soon as you can. Remember, the more books you order, the more books I can get for our classroom library!
-We will be going to Rivershire on September 20 from 9:30-11:00. I will send all of the volunteers a packet when it gets a little closer.
-Our class goes to the library on Fridays. Please try to remind your child to bring back their books each week so they can check out new ones.
-Don't forget to check out the photo albums to see your kids hard at work!
