We have started our next unit in Social Studies, which focuses on maps. Students will learn key characteristics of a map and how maps relate to their everyday lives. If you are interested, help your child draw a map of their room. Discuss how their room and the model they draw are related. We will continue our study throughout the next few weeks.
Math continued to focus on strategies for subtraction, solving both abstract and real world problems. Students were introduced to fact families and how number sentences are related. We will continue to work with fact families this week, making a few fun hands on projects.
During writers workshop, students learned skills to revise stories they previously thought were finished. Using special purple pens, we are rereading our stories and asking important questions like what? Who? When? Where? Why? And how? This helps the students think of important details to add, giving their stories more interest.
Team literacy and literacy workshop are continuing to be extremely productive. Students work in small groups everyday getting differentiated instruction to meet their needs, working on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
Questions to ask your child:
Can you make a fact family using the numbers 3, 4 and 7? Show me!
Tell me about a story you wrote during writers workshop.
Read me the book from your team literature group!
Can you do your word sort for me?
Reminders:
-Please remember your child brings their team literature book back the following day!
-Anyone who would like to volunteer during our math hour Tuesday through Friday 9:20-10:20 please contact me.
