Our team literature groups and writers workshop are underway! I am so proud of how hard our students have been working. Team literature is off to a great start. During these small group lessons students are gaining skills to become better readers and writers. Every week your child will be bringing home the two books they have been working on. Please read these books with your child and talk about the stories.
Our first unit of study in writers workshop focuses on personal narratives. Students have been writing stories about events that have happened in their lives. A big challenge for these young writers can be generating a topic, thank you for sending in the photos. They have been extremely helpful! We will continue this unit for another month or so and end the unit with a publishing party!
During our math block we continued to learn strategies to solve subtraction problems in chapter 4. Next we will introduce fact families and start gaining fact fluency. In science we are continuing our study of plant life cycles and will start our next social studies unit focusing on maps.
I am looking forward to the coming week and continuing to get to know your student!
Questions to ask your child:
What was your personal narrative topic today?
Can you read me the book from your team literature group?
Reminders:
If anyone would like to volunteer during our math block (9:20-10:20) please contact me!!!
